Maldives - Bangladesh Relations
The Maldives and bangladesh have a bilateral relationship characterized by mutual respect, cooperation, and shared interests. Maldives and Bangladesh established diplomatic relations on 22 September 1978.
The Maldives established its diplomatic presence in Bangladesh in 2008, with His Excellency late Dr. Abdul Samad Abdullah assuming the role of the first resident High Commissioner of Maldives to Bangladesh. In April 2014, due to financial constraints, the Government of Maldives took the decision to temporarily suspend operations at its High Commission in Bangladesh. However, in July 2014, after careful reconsideration, the government resolved to downsize and subsequently re-establish the High Commission in Bangladesh. Presently, the esteemed High Commissioner of Maldives to Bangladesh, Her Excellency Shiruzimath Sameer, had the privilege of presenting her Letter of Credence to the distinguished President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, His Excellency Md. Abdul Hamid, on 29 December 2020.
In 1998, Bangladesh established its High Commission in Maldives, with His Excellency Major General Harun Ahmed Choudhury serving as the first resident High Commissioner from the Peoples Republic of Bangladesh to the Republic of Maldives.
