President of the Republic of Maldives H.E Ibrahim Mohamed Solih appointed H.E Shiruzimath Sameer as the High Commissioner of Maldives to the People’s Republic of Bangladesh on 15 November 2020, and she presented her Letter of Credence to the President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, His Excellency Md. Abdul Hamid on 29 December 2020.

H.E. Ms. Shiruzimath Sameer joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives in 2007. Prior to her appointment as the High Commissioner of the Maldives to Bangladesh, she served as the Additional Secretary at the East and Central Asian Division of the Ministry.

High Commissioner Sameer has held various portfolios in the Maldives Foreign Service, including Permanent Secretary of the Ministry in 2015, during which she played a key role in revitalizing the human resource structure and management in the Service. She also served in Berlin as Minister-Counsellor and successively Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of the Republic of Maldives in Germany from 2016-2019. During her assignment in Germany, she played an instrumental role in elevating the relations between the Maldives and Germany, including her contributions to the opening and setting up of the first resident Embassy in Berlin.

During her diplomatic career, she has served in the multilateral and bilateral divisions of the Ministry in different roles. High Commissioner Sameer received her MA in Social Science with a specialization in Diplomacy from the National University of Malaysia. She also holds a BA (Hons) Degree in International Business from University of East London.

High Commissioner Sameer is married with two children.
