High Commissioner calls on the Prime Minister of Bangladesh

High Commissioner of the Republic of Maldives to the People's Republic of Bangladesh, H.E. Shiruzimath Sameer paid a courtesy call on the Hon'ble Prime Minister of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, Her Excellency Sheikh Hasina, at her office today. 

During the call, Prime Minister Hasina welcomed the High Commissioner to Bangladesh and expressed firm commitment to work closely with Maldives on bilateral, regional and international matters. 

The High Commissioner conveyed felicitations best wishes on behalf of the President and people of Maldives, on the birth centeneray anniversary of Bangladesh's Father of the Nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the Golden Jublilee of Independece of Bangladesh. 

The High Commissioner expressed appreciation to the Government of Bangladesh for its continued support to the Maldives, and especially for the assistance extended in addressing the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, and reaffirmed Maldives’ support to Bangladesh on issues of mutual concern including the plight of the Rohingya people and climate change. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina assured that the Government of Bangladesh will continue to work closely with the Government of Maldives to strengthen the relations between the two countries. High Commissioner also briefed the Prime Minister on the  current developments in the Maldives. 

The High Commissioner also thanked the Prime Minister Hasina and her government for the assistance accorded to Maldives on several fronts, including the health, education and defense sectors, and expressed the desire to expand cooperation in sectors such as trade and commerce and fisheries sector. 

High Commissioner Shiruzimath was accompanied in the meeting by Mr. Ahmed Fazeel, First Secretary at the High Commission of Maldives to Bangladesh.
