Maldives Bangladesh Bilateral Relations

Maldives and Bangladesh have very strong bond of longstanding formal and informal ties. Maldives and Bangladesh established diplomatic relations on 22 September 1978.

Maldives opened its High Commission in Bangladesh in 2008 and His Excellency late Dr. Abdul Samad Abdullah served as the first resident High Commissioner of Maldives to Bangladesh. In April 2014 the Government of Maldives decided to close down its High Commission in Dhaka due to financial constraints. However, in July 2014, the Government of Maldives reviewed its decision and decided to scale down and re-open the High Commission in Dhaka. The current High Commissioner of Maldives to Bangladesh, Her Excellency Shiruzimath Sameer presented her Letter of Credence to the President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, His Excellency Md. Abdul Hamid on 29 December 2020.

Bangladesh opened its High Commission in Maldives in 1998. His Excellency Major General Harun Ahmed Choudhury was the first resident High Commissioner of Bangladesh to the Maldives. The current High Commissioner of Bangladesh His Excellency Rear Admiral Nazmul Hassan, presented credentials to the President of the Republic of Maldives His Excellency Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on 31 August 2020.
