43rd Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between Maldives and Bangladesh

"Today marks the 43rd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Bangladesh. On this auspicious occasion, I would like to extend my heartiest congratulations and best wishes to the Government and People of Bangladesh who continue to demonstrate their unwavering friendship and strong partnership towards the Maldives for over four decades.

Maldives and Bangladesh share a special bond of friendship based on history, shared values, understanding and mutual trust. The close bilateral cooperation has elevated to a much higher level this year, with the State Visit of His Excellency President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to Bangladesh in March this year to join the celebrations of the Birth Centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the Golden Jubilee of Independence of Bangladesh as guest of honour, and the Official visit of Foreign Minister His Excellency Abdullah Shahid in February this year.  During both visits the bilateral engagements between our countries were further enhanced through new agreements in several key areas, including fisheries, human resources placement, cultural exchange and foreign office consultations.

Bangladesh is a country with huge potential in human resources, and the Maldives continues to benefit significantly in the training of medical professionals and other technical sectors as well. In addition, it is important to note the immense contribution made by Bangladeshi workers in key sectors of the Maldivian economy. I take this opportunity to thank the Government of Bangladesh for the continued assistance extended to Maldives in combating the Covid-19 pandemic.  I commend and appreciate the exemplary leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Her Excellency Sheikh Hasina in the effective management and control of the Covid-19 pandemic situation in Bangladesh.

It is my wish that the bonds of friendship between our two countries will be further strengthened in the years to come, and I wish for continued economic progress and increased prosperity for both our countries."
